Co-Curricular - Public Speaking

At Marian Catholic College students have the opportunity to participate in the Catholic Schools’ Public Speaking Competition. This is a competition involving three rounds and is held on consecutive Friday nights early in Term One each year. The competition involves students from across the Sydney Metropolitan area. Two students are chosen to represent the College for each Year group 7-10 with four students chosen for the Senior Section.

Topics are provided to the students a number of weeks prior to the commencement of the competition, enabling them to prepare. It is a competition with a focus on public speaking skills; students are required to deliver a speech, not a dramatic performance.

If a student is successful in Round One, they proceed the following week to the Elimination Final and then the Final itself.

In addition, there is the opportunity to participate in other Public Speaking competitions such as that run by the Soroptimist Club. These competitions provide valuable experience in speaking to a range of audiences.
